Ohana Trip 2016~ Hong Kong Day 3

Hey guys,

//5 Dec 2016 12.19am//

Oh my gosh, its Day 3 already!!!😨

We had a super great breakfast (scramble eggs + luncheon meat or fish), and then headed to 大佛. We took the MTR (which is pretty much our MRT), and then the bus.

Our itenary was pretty simple today. After 大佛, we went to Da Ou where we had our lunch, and then up the mountain as well as Victoria Habour, where we had dinner.

Although Hong Kong is relatively smaller than a lot of other countries, we still spent a lot of time travelling from one place to another.

Still travelling around via public transport like the locals is still enjoyable:))

Ohana Trip 2016~ Hong Kong Day 2

Hey guys!:))

//12.03am 4 Dec 16//

It's the end of Day 2 already. Time is passing way too quickly.

We set out earlier today, and explored The Venetian in greater detail, as well as The Parisian after breakfast. Within an hour, we went to both Venice and Paris. Not only was the weather super great, the architechture was also amazing~~

At around noon, we left Macau and headed to Hong Kong via the ferry.

The first thing we did was to grab a bite, and food, being food, was wonderful~~

After which, we went took a cab, and checked in at the hotel, which was, although not as much of a luxury as The Venetian, still comfortable for four.

We explored Temple Street, had some food here and there as usual, and pretty much ended the day by walking around and watching the people do what they usually do.

A lot of the day was taken up by travelling, and hence we didn't get to explore as many places. But fret not, we still have quite a few days left.

Oh yes, we also went shopping and bought quite a number of things at Temple Street. I also found one of my favourite food: 铁蛋:)) Although slightly different, I'm still blessed to be able to taste this delicacy again:))

Here's to an even better tomorrow!:))ツ🍸

Nitez guys,

Ohana Trip 2016~ Hong Kong Day 1

Hey readers,

For this couple of days, I will be posting a travel log instead of my other usual posts. I do hope that ypu guys will be able to travel with me through this, and do forgive me if this is not up to standard, this is my first travel log after all.

// 12.17am  3Dec2016 //

-Day 1 of Hong Kong Trip 2016-

Day 1 just ended. (I promise I'll add in the pictures when I get back)

We took a flight early in the morning, and landed around noon. After a ferry transfer, we arrived in MACAU!!

Soon we checked into the hotel and went off exploring the neighbouring places. There was a street which was so much like a typical Taiwan street selling all sorts of food:)) We had the best meal yet there, consisting of frog legs and crab porriage among many others wonderful delicacies:))

After a shopping session, we flagged a cab and went to this super cool wall where we stayed a little while to take photographs.

Considering the prices of the things here, we mostly window shopped.

After that, we took some time to explore the hotel and its shops and facilities while the adults paid a customary visit to the casino.

With that, we ended our first day here.

Looking forward to tomorrow:))

Sites I Cannot Live Without + A Very Very Very Special Announcement

Hey guys!!

To be honest, I am working on a short story for yall now, but really I don't want to disappoint you guys, so I thought I better work out a couple of chapters before publishing the first, just so that I will have something to post when I don't have time or inspiration to write.

But to give yall a little something to read while I'm working on that, I decided to give you guys a little insight on the websites I use most often, and those that are really my bae website.

I also realised the lack of study material available to help students online, so I'm actually thinking about publishing my own study notes after my End Of Year Exams or after I graduate next year, what do you guys think? Will it be helpful for you guys? Let me know so I can decide whether to do it or not.

But since I'm not taking every available subject, I shall only publish those that I actually study, which are:

I have also included the examination code for my subjects, and hopefully they will be the same as yours.

Till the next time!

My Final Goodbye To You

29 July 2016         8.02pm

That was my last ride. The last time you fetched me from Point A to B. The last time before your owner is no longer us. The last goodbye that almost broke my heart.

You have been there for me since the very start, from Primary 1 until now.

You were there to bring me to most, if not all of my tuition classes.

You were there when I received my PSLE results.

You were there to celebrate with me when my results came back.

You were there to fetch Grandma to where she wanted to go.

You were there to bring me to the hospital to visit Grandma in her final months.

You brought me from HIPS to NCHS.

You brought me to Malaysia, my first 'road trip'.

You were there, every morning and most of the time, after school, to either bring me to school or to bring me home.

You were my touchstone, the one thing that didn't change even when I lost so many loved ones. How could I ever forget how Emily came down to you every morning with her brothers and pressed your horn. How could I ever forget the joy that you brought me, the convenience that came with your existence.

I lost Grandma, and that was hard enough to deal with, no that was terrible to deal with.

But now, I lost you.

You started and ended my day. I saw you every day. Nothing will ever be the same again.

Nothing will ever be the same, ever again.

Thank you, for always being there, for bringing me so much joy, for bringing me so much convenience. Thank you, for being in my life.

Although it really pains me to let you go, I hope your next 5 years will be as joyful as the 9 years you spent with me, and then it truly will be goodbye.

The Photography Journey of a Lion City Kia- Chapter 1

Hey guys,

I'm actually surprised you guys still follow this space here, since I rarely ever update now.  But still, I really am really grateful for that.

As those who have followed me from the time I started this blog, you probably already know that I am in my school's Multimedia Club, so that pretty much explains my love for photography. So one day, I thought, since I can't update a story all the time, I might as well post the photos I took along with a little caption or something.

Just a little something for you guys to enjoy.

So this is the very first one!

Waterway Point, 24 April 2016

This is a picture I took at Waterway Point, you guys probably know that already, don't you. Well, I was out having dinner there with my family, and I was just randomly shooting some images and it happened that this one turned out really well, and well, it is my favourite photo at the moment.

Just to clarify, I took this photo on my phone (I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge now), so even though I really love those "professional" cameras like a DSLR, it really goes to show that you CAN take high quality photos with your phone, because sometimes, when a great photography opportunity comes, you really don't want to miss it just because you don't have a camera with you.

Now, my belief when it come to photography, is that the feeling you get when you look at a photo is of utmost importance.

I know many photography training courses will tell you to use this technique, or that technique, and yes, I agree that it may enhance your photo, but if the techniques don't come naturally for you, DON'T FORCE IT. Just take a photo based on your instincts, and who knows, it may turn out great!

For aspiring professional photographers to be, keep a look out for my posts. If I have enough time, I will put in some tips for y'all. That said, I am still a student, so I may make mistakes too. I promise that I'll do research, but if my techniques don't work for you, please don't force it. The feeling you get from a photo is really of utmost importance, I really cannot emphasize that more.

So this is it for today. I know it is exam season, so all the best guys! JIA YOU!

A Tribute to the Challengers of NCHS

Hey guys,

This really is a tribute to my class, but feel free to enjoy it if you want.

For my classmates coming over from Facebook, Instagram or Twitter,

A big hug to all of you. Thank you for supporting, and this post is for you.

A throwback to last year, where we were all babies of Nan Chiau, the new kids, trying to get to know the school and more importantly, trying to get our bearings and get to know each other. Those were the times when cliques were first formed and new friends were made, different to those we had in primary school.

Time flew, and despite all our differences, we bonded as a class, and had plenty of crazy times.

Remember our class barbeque, where we had so much fun teasing and disturbing our FT, Mr Tan?

Remember Physics lessons, where Mr Tan could turn the introduction to Light, in to Dating 101 for the guys?

Remember the fun we had at CFA, and when we were doing the ACRES roadshow?

Those were the crazy times, and I look forward to our last meeting, for our final class gathering.

Most of us have got different aspirations and will choose different subject combinations. Most of us will not be in the same class agian next year. I wish all of you all the best, and may you be able to do well, and score well in every assignment.

Wishing all of you all the best, and I enjoyed these two years with you guys, and I hope you guys feel the same.

With that, I will end this blog post, but the feeling of longing to repeat the year will still be there, no matter how much I look forward to the new academic year.

2015 In A Nutshell

As 2015 draws in to a close, I figured that one of the best things to do at the moment is to step back and reflect on the year. Have I achieved what I wanted to? Have I made the most of the year?

First of all, a couple of major things happened this year.

Academically,

I scored a couple of D7s this year, (which for those of you not in the Singapore Secondary School grading system, D7 means that I failed that subject).
Well, I learnt from my mistake, and bounced back, and managed to pass those in the end.

I worked hard and got into the stream of my dreams. I'll admit that I was hesitating between two of my favourite subjects, and I chose THE ONE, eventually. Even though I am happy with the choice I made, I'll never stop wondering what would have happened if I chose the other.

Generally in life,

I lost 3 of my closest relatives within a period of 3 years, 2 of them this year. Those who do know me on a personal level, you will know who I'm talking about. Those of you who only know me as the writer of this not-regularly-updated blog, I'm sorry, but I really am not planning to go into the details. I am not planning to, and not very willing to.

But yet, during the periods of grieve, I gained. I gained experience. I became more independent, and reinforced my unwillingness to break down in public. I reconnected with my cousins, some of whom I have lost connected with for the longest time. Some, I meet regularly, but of whom I got to know better.

In this space,

Since I started, I tried starting 2 series, Yay Or Nay? and Your Daily Motivation.
Both I did not continue with after a while, I regret to say. I had high hopes of myself, and what I would do, writing everyday, a little something for you guys to look forward to regularly. But I can't. And I am sorry.

Life keeps giving me surprise plans, and that's why I can't plan out my schedule properly. That said, I am to be blamed too. I'm too lazy in nature to keep up with a daily, or even weekly series. Therefore, I may try again next year, but maybe not. I don't know. I guess I will just have to go with the flow.

Now, for the most cliche part of all "In A Nutshell" posts, my goals and plans.

1. I want to spend more time with my family. The year has made me realised the importance of not taking them for granted, and to strive to spend as much time as possible with them.

2. Being in a foundation building year, I really want to do well in my studies.

I guess, at the end of the day, it really does matter what you do, when you do.

With that, sorry for the SUPER late post, and I hope you enjoyed this.

My Experience in Koref

Hey guys, thank you for sticking around considering my lack of posts recently. I would just like to say:
HAPPY NEW YEAR and
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR in advance!!!!!

Just to apologise, Sec 3 has been one hell of a ride for me. I never expected many of the things that happened in just this one month. Plus,
Considering my lack of posts recently, I decided that I might as well start of this year with my reflection from a camp I came back from recently, and maybe, just maybe, you can get to known this very inconsistent writer a little better. I won't say anything for sure, but any information you extract from this post is completely your own interpretation.

For background information, I went to Koref. It is in Kahang, Johor, Malaysia. Let me just say that Koref is one of the most beautiful I have been to. the pace of life is completely different from that of Singapore. It literally would be the perfect place to go to unwind during the school holidays. For adult, it may be wiser to take leave when you can instead of counting on the holidays, as I expect a lot of people may want to go there too.

For your benefit, this is the official website: http://kahangorganic.com/en/
Reflection:
1.       What have I learnt about myself? What are my strength and weaknesses?

I have learnt that I can be strong, and I have the potential to overcome my weaknesses with the help of my friends, who are basically my pillar of support when I am not at home. I tend to be a little more irritated with the ones around me when I am not feeling fresh, or when I am feeling very tired.

2.       What can I do to improve on my weaknesses, and what can I do to build on my strengths?

I have to change this bad habit of mine, which is to become very irritable when I am not in my best condition, as this attitude will tend to offend my friends. As my friend are all I have when I am not at home, on top of the fact that they have helped me through a lot of difficult time, offending them or angering them is definitely not the way to thank my friends. We have spent a lot of time together, and they are the rare ones who have seen me at my weakest. I intend to keep this friendship going with them, and maybe be able to repay this debt with a favour or two in the near future.

3.       What are some of the most important lessons you have learnt in this camp?

I have learnt to not complain and to make do with even the worst conditions. Life often throws crappy situations in our faces and what can we do when that happens? Throw in the towel and quit on life? Or do the best you can to turn things around? Of course the latter, isn’t it? This camp threw us in an environment we are not familiar with, with shower and lodging quality way lower than what we are used to at home. What can we do then? Throw a tantrum and demand to be sent home? We have to make do with it, and even find pleasure and fun to enjoy the process.

4.       How can I apply the lessons when I return to my normal life in school and at home?

Even in the worst situations, I will have to keep my spirits up and deal with them in the best way possible. Even as academic stress increases, I have to stay positive, and look for the light at the end of the darkest tunnel. In the case of academics, I have to look for my teachers to clear my doubts, and to be able to fully grasp the chapter.
Day 1: In School with the FALCONS
The FALCONS really put in a lot of effort to plan the days’ worth of activities for us. They spent theor holidays doing it, and then missed a day of lessons to carry it out, even when they are in Secondary 4, that final and most important year in secondary school life. It definitely was hard on them, but I really thank them for it, because they did a really good job in coming up with the games and the workshop. I felt that it really helped me to grow as a person, and a leader-to-be.  It is never easy to plan activities for over 300 people, and as much as it is impossible for any activity to be agreeable for everyone, the FALCONS did a great job in ensuring that every activity, every game, every slide has educational value in developing our leadership skills.
Day 2: Day 1 in Koref (Quest 2)
·         Learning points:
o   We should have an increased sense of urgency.
o   We should show more care and concern for each other as a class.
§  “Remember to tuck in your shirts.”
§  “Drink up guys, drink up.”
§  “Are you alright?”
o   During activities, it is always the perfect time to cheer each other on.
·         What we could have done better as a class:
o   We could have had more sense of urgency, and move from one place to another in a shorter amount of time to allow for more time for activities.
o   We could have planned better and continue to come up with better ideas for drum rafting.
o   We could have chosen a more flexible approach, and changed a plan when it didn’t work.
o   We should have been less arrogant about completing the task, and thus may have been successful in future tasks.
·         What have you learnt about yourself or your classmates?
o   The idea of ‘Everyone is awesome in their own ways’ was reinforced to me. We, as a class, have people of different capabilities, some may be more comfortable with tying knots than others, while some of us may have absolutely no idea how to tie a knot which is not a dead knot. During activities like drum rafting, we have to tap on everyone’s talents, and allocate the roles accordingly, with those who are good at knot-tying to actually build the raft up, and those who are not so good to assist them where necessary, like lifting the raft up, etc.
o   I have also come to realise that the result is not everything. Once upon a time, I would go all out, including doing everything by myself, in order to secure the highest grade I can, and it was most evident in project works I had in the past. After this camp, I came to realise that the process is the best part of any project work or activity. 3B may have failed to complete the drum rafting activity, but we thoroughly enjoyed the process.
·         Favourite moment:
o   My favourite moment was when we managed to pass the ‘radioactive capsule’ through the ‘deactivation ring’ that was 3 metres above ground. We have no aids, and were not allowed to climb onto anything. What we ended up doing was to find the lightest people to sit on the shoulders of the tallest people to increase our height, in order to reach the ring. This plan sounded very ‘Mission Impossible’ at first, thus, we were all very excited when it succeeded. We celebrated as a class, and I really enjoyed the bonding, the celebration, the happiness that filled us at that moment.

·         Craziest moment:
o   The craziest moment we had was probably during the drum rafting. The raft was already falling apart when we were building it, but we were all holding on to that last hope that it would turn out alright in the hand of our ‘knots experts’. We didn’t want to rush them, as it was obvious that they were already doing their best, but it seemed that inexperience got the better of us in the end, and we did not succeed. Though we failed, but the process was one of the most enjoyable. We worked together, and had people crawling under the raft to pass the string around the drum, and also people lifting the entire drum up to shoulder level to help with the tying of drums and poles. It was one of the most memorable moments in most, if not all, of our 15 year long lives.
Day 3: Day 2 in Koref (Quest 1&3)
·         Learning points:
o   To not complain and make do with even the worst situations
o   Remember to appreciate whatever we are given
o   Our class bonding is what matters
o   Teamwork is important to me, to us as a class
o   Leadership skills are shown in the smallest actions
o   Whatever plan I implement should not be for my own benefit, but for the benefit of everybody, the masses
·         What we could have done better as a class:
o   We could have planned better for water creatures
o   We could have found better and more efficient ways to transport the tumblers
o   We could have communicate better during river crossing.
·         What have I learnt about myself:
o   I realised that I am stronger than I think. Once upon a time, I would get very homesick during camps and overseas trips with the school. But this time, I finally managed to overcome my severe case of homesickness and did not cry at all, a stark contrast to me during a China trip just two months back, where I cried myself to sleep for a few nights. This credit should go to my friends, who stood by me to comfort me, keep me company and keep my mind busy just so that I would not think of home. Without them, I probably would be stuck with this “illness” for the rest of my life.
Day 4: Day 3 in Koref
·         Today is the day we left Koref and went back home. Back home, we have proper beds, mattresses, air-conditioning. After two night of living the kampong way of life, I am starting to truly appreciate my daily comforts. I realised that I should not take these things for granted, as they may be taken away anytime, for example, during war time. This has impacted me in the sense that I now can empathise more with the people living in third-world countries, who deal with what we have dealt with at Koref all their lives, and, most if not all the time, even more. This camp has humbled me.

To end this off, I would just like to say that as much as I want to update this space everyday, I can't, as I have to consider my school workload. But I will try my best, and that is a promise.

Till then

Peacing Out,
